New York Times FAIL: Janelle Brown Edition
Why oh why can't we have a better press corps?
Ezra Klein writes:
The New York Times owes me a correction: In an article about Mickey Kaus's quixotic Senate candidacy, Janelle Brown writes that I "loathe" Kaus. I don't. I find his apparent interest in me puzzling, but that's about all the thought I give to the matter. Moreover, Brown didn't contact me for the article and I can't remember the last time I wrote about Kaus, so it's hard to see what evidence underpins her description of my emotions towards the man. This is sloppy, sloppy journalism, and the Times owes me a correction.
Ezra Klein does appear to have written the words "Mickey Kaus" once last summer:
Peter Orszag Responds to His Critics: In his New Yorker profile of Peter Orszag, Ryan Lizza argued that Orszag was the Obama administration official who best represented -- and even guarded -- "Obamaism." I think you see a bit of that today over at Orszag's blog. This is his first post, to my knowledge, linking to other bloggers. And he kicks it off by linking, and respectfully responding, to criticisms made by three conservatives who he "reads regularly": Virginia Postrel, Mickey Kaus, and Richard Posner. He starts it, in other words, by reaching out to critics and trying to convince them that he understands their concerns. Call it the David Brooks strategy...
But I cannot find any other mentions either at the Washington Post or before, when Ezra was blogging for The American Prospect.
By contrast, it appears that over the past several years 20% of Mickey Kaus's posts include the words "Ezra Klein"...
UPDATE: An appalled MSM pundit points out in email that Janelle Brown writes:
It’s difficult to find a writer or politico in Los Angeles who hasn’t knocked boots (or opinions) with Mr. Kaus...
"Knock boots":
hetero vaginal sex. The sound made sounds like knocking boots...
UPDATE 2: Gappy 3000 and Juan find mentions of Kaus that I had missed at Ezra Klein's old weblog at the American Prospect. Juan:
5 favourably (if sometimes grudingly) cites Kaus, 1 cites him neutrally, 2 cite people disagreeing/attacking him and 2 point out that Kaus doesn't like him. The remaining 12 disagree with Kaus, sometimes gently teasing him... sometimes just making the observation that he's against unions and some attacking him.... Klein doesn't actually think Kaus is his "arch-nemesis", he's amused by the idea that Kaus is entering into a feud with him... you'd be hard pressed to say Klein loathes him...
