Department of "Huh?!?!"; Paul Ryan's Flacks Make No Sense Department

The Romney campaign said Ryan had nothing to do with the trades in the first place. They were part of a Russell 1000 index fund that automatically traded stocks as part of a pre-set formula. Ryan’s disclosure forms include several similar trade patterns at various points throughout the year.
But an index fund shows up on his financial disclosure form as an index fund--not as positions in individual stocks that grow and shrink. And there are many too few transactions listed on the financial disclosure form for Ryan to have been rolling his own Russell 1000 tracker. The flack simply does not know what he is talking about
