General Georg Stumme, commanding Panzer Army Africa in Erwin Rommel's sick-leave absence, reports to Berlin that his forces have sufficient fuel for just 11 days of operations at current consumption levels, enough ammunition for only nine days' fighting, and bread rations for just 21 days. Tires and spare parts for vehicles are badly wanting, reinforcements are low, malnourishment is common, and the sick rate increasingly high.
