Live from Crow's Coffee: "Loyola University, a [Jesuit] Catholic university in Chicago, is opposing a union drive among its contingent academic workers...
:...On the grounds that it would violate the university’s First Amendment religious liberty... [to disregard Catholic doctrine on unions as set out by] Pope Leo XIII... Pope John Paul II... National Conference of Catholic Bishops... [and] the Archbishop of Chicago..."
What can one say? That there exists a religious liberty for a religious organization to disregard government regulations to ask it to do what its own religious doctrines require is a genuinely new mode of right-wing argument in America today. I thought we had seen everything. Turns out we had not.
