It seems to me very much that the appropriate frame of analysis is to ask what the Trumpeters have in common...
...with the Red Guards, the Khmer Rouge, the SA (but NOT the SS), perhaps the sans-culottes (though that's less clear coming so close to the beginning of the Great Divergence). But I learned my lesson a few days ago. We are, in America, not allowed to talk about what some aspects of what drives the rage of those left behind, even when one is trying to discuss the issue in as non-judgemental and as helpful a manner as possible. We don't talk about class in America, and we REALLY don't talk about what DRIVES class in America.
